Relaxation – before the Big Events!
I haven’t forgotten to write. It has just been three or four days of relaxation. We are having a great time but with little to record. We had a nothing-to-record visit to our last Iceland shop –Djupivogur. We were in search of reindeer but were not successful. No worries, there will be more chances. We did visit a local history museum, climbed a knoll for a beautiful view of the surrounding area and had a great lunch at the local hotel, Framtia. It is a great guest house and, incidentally, guest house hopping would be another great way to tour Iceland for those non-camper friends! We had the local cod fish, vegetable soup, and wine. Great final meal in Iceland! We even visited the ‘egg’ museum where there are 23 rocks representing all of the bird species that live here. I don’t understand the hype but it seems to be a big deal. We’ve spent about 12 days here now and feel as though we have really experienced the country.
Two full days at sea have been relaxing and non productive. We’ve watched entertaining shows, eaten way more than we should have and had plenty to drink. We did follow through with Chinese food (room service) for our sail-away. We enjoyed the hot tub, the mojito tasting, and, yes, the martini tasting. We each got our moment of fame behind the bar helping the bartender produce the variety of drinks. Wait for the photos. :0
Tomorrow we take a 11 hour boat/land tour in Longyearbyen – the most northern inhabited island in the world. We plan to dress in layers and hope to find a polar bear (along with the reindeer). We don’t ask for much.
