Onward!

“Everything is hay in hard times.”  That is a popular quote here in the Reykjavik airport in Iceland.  Without hay, life is hard.  Lose your hay. Lose your livelihood—sheep!  Everything is made of wool!

We left 90 degree weather and arrived to 42 degrees.  Chilly!  Yet, it appears to be a very interesting country and we wish we had planned to spend a bit of time here.  Unfortunately, that wouldn’t be happening this time.  There was just enough time to sample a kleina (twisted doughnut) and Icelandic coffee, take a look at local arts, and board the next plane to Paris.

The last twelve hours are somewhat of a blur but Shelly was a tour guide as we wandered the City Walk near Universal Studios.  It was quite enjoyable and we only wish the rain had not kept us away the night before.  It was surprisingly uncrowded and we were able to dine with Emeril!  Simple yet tasty!

The airplane ride was uneventful, thank goodness. We were successful with the old ‘book the aisle and the window seat and hope no one takes the center’.  The extra seat made sleeping a bit more possible.  Still not too many hours of snooze time.  I, for one, am a much happier traveler with the flight maps to entertain me.  I continue to be amazed that we are traveling over 500 miles an hour.  I estimate that we travel in one hour what we would drive on a normal travel day.  I, unfortunately, chose the wrong time to go to the bathroom so when I exited I was behind the food cart.  When I left my seat, we were over Washington, DC and when I returned, we were looking down on Canada. Ha Ha.

OK, so the kind of freaky thing about  the maps were the highlights they chose to include.  The one of particular concern to me was the “TITANTIC, 1912”.  We happened to fly over that  and I couldn’t help but wonder why that needed to be noted for the pilots and passengers in that part of the world.  Seriously, what is up with that?

Iceland is 4 hours ahead of our Eastern Time zone and we are about to move forward 2 more hours.  Looks like we’ll land just in time for lunch while we would still be sleeping if not traveling.  Hmmm….our big decision is whether our next meal should be breakfast or lunch?

(And on an embarrassing note, we just realized we left our computer charger in Orlando and have been unable, thus far, to find one here.  We are told ths is NEW technology that hasn’t reached Europe yet.  If you don’t hear from us for a while, you will know why.  We’ll conserve power and hold off with the pcs for a while, too!P
